Les Escoumins dive center
Underwater world with mesmerizing colors, inhabited by the most abundant flora and fauna, the Escoumins site is, with good reason, one of the premier saltwater diving destinations in Quebec. Easy to access, located on the North Shore, near the Saguenay Fjord, the Marine Environment Discovery Centre is the main attraction for diving in the region. As the Marine Environment Discovery Centre is also the interpretation center for the flora and fauna of the Saguenay - St. Lawrence Marine Park, it also attracts many non-divers, each more curious than the other to come and discover this subarctic ecosystem undersea and to hear the divers-biologists describe to them its peculiarities.
In order to allow the discovery of this exceptional environment, three dive sites - Baie des anémones, East and West cove - have been set up. A series of cement walkways and stairs facilitate the launching from the shore, which is an exception for this region whose coastline is mostly rocky and steep. As for the services offered to divers, the Marine Environment Discovery Centre has a dive-shop with equipment rental and air filling services. For those who wish, experienced guides are available to accompany you during your first dives and allow you to familiarize yourself with this type of diving practiced from the shore. When you get out of the water, you will be able to enjoy showers and heated dressing rooms, specially designed for divers. As the access to the shore is sloping, the Marine Environment Discovery Centre lends wheelbarrows to transport the diving equipment to the launch.
This season, come and immerse yourself in this section of the estuary of our majestic St. Lawrence River and discover one of the most popular places for the Quebec diving community. You will understand why divers come back year after year to explore this unique environment. You will see that these colourful seabeds, densely covered with anemones, sponges, algae and sea urchins, are of unsuspected richness and have nothing to envy of those of tropical destinations. On one condition, however: agree to brave the icy waters!
Have a good visit and above all, have a great dive!
